hi all, I have a 1990 ford econoline 150 with the 5.8 liter that has 70k, it was running fine and the other day I noticed it kinda bucking slightly at about 35mh. when i got it home i would give it gas and it sputters/misses for a sec untill the rpms build and if i push the pedal to the floor real quick it kinda sputters/misses and sometimes pops out the throttle body , i did put some gas in the rear tank that i had in a gas can, i figured maybe there was water in it so i switched to the front tank and put new gas in at the station and its still running the same. i have changed the cap and rotor, wires, ignition control module, coil, fuel pressure regulatorand fuel filter. now im stumped. anyone got any idea's? would be greatly appreciated
With the duel tanks, and the pumps, I'll let someone else that has more experience on that chime in, which could be what problems your having, in other words, the pump is not supplying the fuel as it should and causing the stumble.
Do you ever see the light come on maybe when you turn the key on..
Don't know how long you have owned the van but it is not uncommon to find that someone has removed the bulb so you wouldn't see it or to pass emissions, or it could be burnt out...
There are ways to use a jumper and read the codes from the dash or use a analog volt meter..
on this video at 33seconds it shows how to hook up the jumper to the connector..
In the video his truck is displaying 3 digit codes and I am pretty sure that your 1990 only displays 2 diet codes.. 2 digit codes
If I remember correctly, when you turn the key on (don't start the van, just turn the key on and watch the light) you might see a series of very fast flashes followed by a pause before it starts blinking the actual codes.
It will display the first set of codes twice followed by a long pause-single flash-long pause, and then display the codes stored in memory, also twice..
The first set of codes are what is happening with the key on before the engine starts. (do not start the engine and it will not start unless you start it) The second set of codes after the long pause-flash-long pause, are the codes stored in memory. They are faults that occurred while the engine was running in the past.
there is a separate test to do with the engine running but for now you need to do the key on engine off test KOEO
yup check engine light works, but it hasnt come on it only has 70 k on it (not that that means anything) , ill check for codes just in case though. thank you for the code list.
here is another site with a bit better explanation on doing the test
when I scanned the page I dont believe i saw them talk about the cylinder balance test which can also be done.. the balance test might help identify is the problem is with a certain cylinder such as injector, wires, ect..
code 11 means everything checks out ok! no faults..
Was that only the key on engine off test or did you do the key on engine running test also? The engine running test puts the system through a series of tests while the engine is running duuh...
If you did both tests and they gave you code 11 then i think that eliminates most anything computer controlled
