Is that really, really necessary? Is anyone posting such valuable and personal info here where that becomes a real concern?
I don't really think anything posted to this site is that sensitive. The main issue is that even the password submission isn't secure. While I don't do it many people reuse passwords and so someone getting their password to this site could let them into their bank or something else important. Moreover it is easy and cheap to support secure connections so why not do it.

I see your point but have to say "user beware" should be the word of the day---ANYTIME we're online. If someone chooses to use the same password "everywhere" their vulnerability falls on them.
While the cost of implementing SSL ect might be "cheap" it could be a cost FTE isn't willing to spend given most users here don't contribute to upkeep. Advertising probably sustains most of the site, InternetBrands isn't bankrupt but that extra cost of operation might not be in the budget.
As a public service maybe we have a sticky note in bold capital letters at the top of each forum reminding us sign-in info isn't protected? I'd be all for that.
Great topic of discussion though---thanks for bringing it up!

Yeah this is not something that is ever going to bite me. I use individual per site random passwords (Lastpass is a great utility for this). I just worry about some of the less technical users getting bitten.
i have been here for over 10 years now and have never heard of anyone having their info hacked from this not being a secure site.
come to think of it, none of the sites i ever go to are secure sites except for my bank and credit cars sites.
