steering wheel compatability

Hi all!

Just bought a 2010 F-150 XLT Crewcab 4x4. I'm pretty stoked on the truck, however, the inside of the truck was in a bit rougher condition than I thought. The steering wheel is in pretty bad condition. I found a few on Ebay and craigslist, however they are off 2012 models. The buttons look a bit different... would this matter since the trucks didn't change much between 09-14? Would I be better off buying used and saving a few $ or just ordering a new part that directly corresponds with my vehicle?

Thanks in advance for the info! Looking forward to participating more in this community!

I had the same issue. I just had the vinyl steering wheel with Sync and no message center in the gauge cluster. It was worn in places. I wanted the leather wrapped steering wheel but could not find one with the controls that I had since the leather wrapped steering wheel was not an option. I took a chance and bought one off of ebay and swapped out my steering wheel controls. Everything works fine. I thought that I was going to have to switch out the steering wheel wiring harness but that wasn't necessary.

Long story short. You shouldn't have any issues.

Yup- what Olyter said. I just put a 2012 leather wheel on my 2010 with that awful foam wheel.

Had to pop the buttons out, I did change the harness in the wheel just to avoid a dumb mistake (didn't want to take it out again if it did matter) and everything was fine. Watch some vids on youtube to pop the airbag, and how to remove the controls. I expected screws, but they're just friction mounted in the wheel. Took me about 20 minutes to do.

I thought about doing it as well. I compared the wiring harness on my stock wheel and the new wheel and they were the same so I figured it wasn't necessary. This may not be the case if you only have steering wheel controls on one side. Super easy swap after watching fordtech's video on swapping the steering wheel switches.
