Will an AOD flexplate (164 tooth 50oz imbalance for 91' 302) be compatible with my 77' C6 transmission? I'm replacing the old flexplate and TQ and I found an "AOD" stamped on the flexplate. I thought that was odd until I tried searching for a flywheel spec for a C6 with 164 tooth and 50oz imbalance...didn't come across anything.
Yes an AOD flexplate will work on a C6 but not the other way around. How is that you ask? The bolt patterns are the same so everything will bolt up but the AOD flexplate is more dished which positions the TC a little shallower, this doesn't matter with the C6 trans but put a C6 flexplate on an AOD and you push the TC in too deep and grind up the oil pump which leads to a quick death of the trans.

Conanski, thanks for the info. That makes sense, thanks for explaining. It's been a interesting journey figuring out the Frankenstein setup I have.
Conanski, have you ever heard of someone developing a knocking type sound by using an AOD flexplate with a C6? I installed the AOD flexplate as a replacement for the previous stock AOD flexplate I pulled in attempt to fix a knock sound that comes from the bell housing...after bolting everything back up the sound is still there. Any ideas?
conanski, why would we have him use an AOD flexplate when the proper c6/e4od flexplate is available for the motor engine combo? given his symptoms, and the trans being in overall good health right Bankog1?
the only other thing i could possible think of is the flexplate/converter are not sitting in the correct mounting wholes. I almost did this one time because i couldnt get the converter to line up and get into the smaller set of holes on the flexplate. any of this making sense?
good thought. I triple checked the TC/flexplate mounting steps and used the smaller correct holes when installing the TC studs through the flexplate. I did have the necessary "end play" where I could move the TC back/forth slightly. Torqued everything to spec and it felt, measured, and looked correct.
