An aod is is a c6, but has overdrive.Same transmission Any engine that a aod will bolt to the c6 will. With my 1982 E-250 with the 351, aod, I'm thinking of just pulling the aod and installing a plain old c6. I had a 1980 E-100 with a c6 and it never gave me any problems. But this aod has me wondering. The guy I bought it from said the aod gave him some problems, and know Iv'e got problems too. And I read that thier is some type of hook-up to the carb also, not that I can find it on my aod. It just has the shift and kick down lever, an electrical connection on top and your radiator fluid cooling lines. That's it no vacum lines or anything. If someone has a different opinon, let me know, but I'm pulling the aod and installing a good "ol c6, no overdrive.
The E4OD is based on the C6 but they are most definitely NOT the same tranny. The E4OD has many concessions made to manufacturing cost and as a result is a much weaker box. The AOD is based, somewhat loosely, on the FMX but it is not the same by any means.
OK, I was misinformed on that. I thought the c6 was and aod were the same. Just what ever modifictions were needed for the overdrive. Which is a better overall transmission? The c6 or the aod?I believe the aod was just an option at the time of purchase. I always thought my c6 in my other van was a really bulletproof trans. Plus Iv'e heard other people say that. Not knowing the aod, what is the opinon, is the aod every bit as good and reliable as the c6?
