Okay so to start, my Work truck is a 2000 F-550 with the 6.8L bone stock. it has the whole 19.5" wheels and it has 4.88's in the back. The truck empty weighs about 12,000lbs and now with all my equipment in it its probably around 14,000 lbs, possibly even more.
i picked up a SCT X4 and i have been looking at getting some tunes from 5 Star tuning. Im thinking of trying the canned tunes for now to see how it goes, and im thinking of running it in the "tow" tune. Although i don't actually tow with the truck would the weight of the truck be enough to utilize the tune and not potentially damage anything especially the transmission?
I should mention that the transmission is not the factory 4R100 but when the company bought the truck they had a rebuilt transmission put in, and the trans shop we use ensured to do all the important updates to it to ensure longevity.
I have no idea if they deal with Canada. I DO know that their customer service, toward me, has been truly outstanding, I went more than 3 years without updating my tuner, which created some issues. They spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me, and even had to remote access my computer to untangle my software mess. I would happily spend more money with them.
Since your a member of this forum you can get a discount on the tune with the code ftefourm15 5 star does deal with you guys north of the border since you already have the tuner all they would be doing is sending you an email with the tune file as an attachment. My customer service experience with them wasn't good like everyone else's but I still like there tunes.
I use my V-10 EX as our family tow rig pulling an 11k travel trailer and have found that 5Star's 87 Octane Performance tune works better for me than the 87 Octane Tow tune does. For me and our 19k lbs+ combo I felt that the Tow tune had the trans downshifting out of OD too soon while climbing grades, with the Perf tune it uses the engine's power better and will hold onto OD with higher throttle opening and gets better MPGs as a result.
The tunes mainly focus on transmission performance and the difference is pretty remarkable, much better than stock.
My towing is about 18.5K and I run the 87 tow tune with 89 octane. Shifts better than the 87 performance tune when towing. Use the 87 perf tune when not towing. Dealing with Mike has always been the greatest!!

Awesome thanks for the info on being a member and ordering!!! ill get on the horn right away!!!!
thanks for all the input guys.
Except now i have another little concern. i had the canned 87 tune installed with all the canned programming set with the exception of the axle ratio, which i set to 4.88 cause thats what i have, and i set it to the "tow" option. So i plugged it back in today to view my gauges and i happened to check on any Trouble codes on the truck. It showed that i had a P0602, which has to do with a PCM Programming Error. So i set the truck back to stock and hooked up my code reader to it, and i haven't been able to find that code again now that the truck is set to stock.
Does this have to do with the Tuner itself? or is there something serious going on here?
