Replacing the fuel pump on a 66 f-100 that has a 390 from a 1975 f-250.
The old pump has a threaded fitting and the new pump has those slip on and clamp type fittings.
The old pump has a metal tube running from the threaded fitting to a short rubber hose at the carb.
Is it OK to replace that metal tube with a rubber fuel hose? Is there a reason to have a metal tube, or since a hose will fit, can I just use a hose? There are a few bends in the tube so I am also wondering if rubber fuel hose will collapse in on itself and restrict the flow of fuel or are they designed to prevent that assuming no sharp angles?
I would keep the hard line and adapt it to the new pump. Will the slip on fitting unscrew from the pump? If so, you may be able to attach the hard line. Keep the rubber fuel hose to a minimum.
I would agree with avoiding the use of rubber hose.
Auto parts stores sell the greenish colored ni-cop 3/8ths or 5/16ths hard metal brake line/fuel line in different lengths that bends up pretty easy. If you ask for actual fuel line they are liable to give you the blank stare or say they don't sell it.
