aod teardown help

Just remove small plate using a 3/8" hex key to loose 3 bolts, using a bar at cranck shaft rotate it untill appears a small 1/2 inch nut, remove it and continue rotating untill next appear, there are 4, after that you can remove 6 5/8" bolts. Of course don't forget remove starter using a 1/2" hex key.

Regards;

"Hex key" is another name for an "Allen wrench" - the tool you want is a "socket".

aod teardown help

sorry, I must not have explained what i am having trouble with in my first post. I already have the transmission out of the truck. If you look into the transmission from the bellhousing end, some splined shafts stick out in the middle and aroud them there is a plate that was held on with a few 10 mm bolts. my question is how to remove this plate. it looks like i might need a big 'ol flywheel puller or something.
thanks,
ty

I really don't mean to sound ignorant, but if you are having this kind of problem in the beginning (pulling the pump out) you really should check into getting a manual. It gets trickier as you get deeper into the trans. You can do it....but grab a book to help

When you remove the 7 bolts holding the pump in, 2 of the holes have threads in them. The Ford tool for removing the pump is a pair of slide hammer adapters. You attach the 2 slide hammers and pop the pump out with them. For many years I have used 2 ordinary bolts and an L shaped pry bar to pull the pump. The threads in the pump and just about all bolts in that transmission are metric.

I got the pump off with some bolts and vice grips. tore the whole thing down and switched tailshafts and put it back together. It seemed to go back ok so i think i got her licked.
