OK, so I've been searching for about an hour now and I still can't find what I am looking for.
I found a brush guard from an 04 F250 that looks good for cheap, but I'm not 100% convinced it'll fit. All of the things I have found show that the 99-04 superduty/excursion brush guards are the same, but this brush guard has 4 holes for bolts on each side and my tow hooks are only in with 2 bolts. What gives? Will it work?

I to have been looking and from what I can tell, 05 Excursion is different than the rest. For my sanity checks I go to Westin's website and try a couple different combos of F-350 ages.
As an example a 2005 F250/350 and 450 and 05 Excursion will be part number 45-1640. The 05-07 superduties will work for an 05 Ex
A 2004 F350 search returns a part number of 45-0220 and the years for those super duties will be 1999-2004.
I hope that helps and doesn't make the confusion worse.
One site showed the brush guard with 4 holes on each side, another showed one for the excursion with 2 on each side. I don't really want to drive an hour to get this thing if it won't work

I see you have a 2000 Ex and if that part came off a 2004, I would expect you to be fine. You will lose your tow hooks off the front.
Is there a way to do it and keep the tow hooks? Or re locate them?
If you are handy with a welder and metal fab tools you could rework those mounting plates to make them go horizontally and mount under the tow hooks instead of in front of where the tow hooks come out of the frame ends. UNLESS the uprights of the cow catcher are in front of where the tow hooks live.........
Maybe you could remount the tow hooks vertically to the inside (or outsides) of the uprights once the cow catcher is mounted to the EX. If you go with that idea make sure that they line up with their original position so as not to put bending stresses in play if they are offset from proper location.
Well I'm sold, since everyone thinks it'll work. I have to wait till next Thursday to go get it, but for 150 I think it's well worth it. Even if I have to play around with it a little to keep the hooks
If your Ex is a 2000 and the brush guard is a 2004, then yes- it'll fit. Unfortunately, yes- you'll lose the factory tow hook location.
The frame horns (around the tow hook opening) have 4 holes on each side, just like the mounting area on the brush guard- even if you can only see 2 bolts per side when the factory bumper setup is all in place. There is no difference between the frame horns of an Excursion and the Super Duty truck of the same year range.

Does that mean that I will have to drill two holes for each side, or is there something I need to remove to access the holes?

On my 99 Super Duty and on my 00 Excursion, the bumper bracket (that bolts to the frame horn) does not have the inner two holes on each side. You could drill them to match the inner two holes on the frame horn. I wonder though- why couldn't you just mount the grille guard with the existing holes? Two on each side works fine for mounting the entire bumper. I'd think it would also be fine for the grille guard.

An empty home is a hole that needs to be filed (hehe) the brush guard has 4 holes for each side in the bracket. Plus I'm going to have to find a way to r locate the tow hooks. Need it to be a stout as possible
