engine identification issues/question

sorry for the long read but im having a few issues. i recently acquired a 91 f250 that from the factory has a 5.0 matched with an m5od. i had some minor issues getting it running but had found out it has a 351 firing order. or a 94-newer 5.0 firing order. i found the casting numbers for the block and they say 24 E7TE CA 7A13. all of this was hidden behind the starter. the reason the id is so important is that im hearing bearings talking when i shouldnt. im probably going to put in an oem cam/crank, bearings and timing set as long as the bearings haven't shifted yet. but i cant do that until i know what my powerplant is. thanks in advance.

Have any pictures?

That casting number could be correct for any year 5.0 so it doesn't help much here, and being used who knows what one of the previous owners has done. Did they swap in a HO motor or just a newer truck motor? Did they put a HO cam in the original block? Or did they install some *******ized combo of parts that really shouldn't be put together? Or do you have a 5.8 and not a 5.0 at all.. they look very similar. Lots of possibilities unfortunately so you may not know for sure until you start digging into it, but if you can post up a pic of the motor then we can at least identify what you got.

this is the power steering bracket. i was told that if it was a 351 the bracket wouldnt be that close to the water pump.

As far as I've been able to tell, this is the easiest ID between a short deck SBF Windsor (303/5.0) & tall deck SBF Windsor (351/5.8)

The 351/5.8 has this diagonal casting at the distributor & the 302/5.0 does not. You don't even have to see it. You can feel it (or its lack thereof) in the dark:

The issue might also be that there is two different sized bolts holding the slave on depending in the year later=shorter as I recall so if you use the longer earlier bolts they bottom out before the slave is tight
