F100 74

I have a 74 f100 3 speed standard and don't know what would be the problem, if it's the clutch or the transmission, or anything else. I press the clutch and put it into gear and feels or sounds like it goes into gear but won't run, all it does is Rev up and the speedometer goes up, also when i put it in reverse it grinds a little like if it wants to go into gear .... can anyone tell me what it might be....thanks....

If speedo goes up and the truck doesn't move there is a disconnect between the transmission and the rear wheels. Broken u-joint, stripped rear end gears disconnected drive shaft.

The speedometer drive gear is on the output shaft of the transmission. The driven gear on the end of the speedometer cable engages the drive gear of the output shaft.

For the speedometer to register a reading, the power from the engine would have to be sent through the transmission.

A picture of the "broken output shafts" would help in answering your question.
