OK I've looked through Project MPG and have decided to try wrapping my air box and put a Kool Blue Filter in. My question is what is the brand name and where can I get the insulating tape descibed in Project MPG?? Also what does it cost approx???
I don't know about project MPG but I use Aluminum foil backed foam insulating tape available from home box stores. I seal the edges etc with Aluminum foil tape available from same.
Are you guys talking about the relatively thin stuff that has plastic bubbles between two sheets of aluminum? I worried about the plastic. Also do you use the spray adhesive to stick it on?
I'd like to replace mine but it looks hard to do on vehicle and make it look nice.
I looked for the foam tape but all they had was plain aluminum tape. I did find some thin fiberglass pipe insulation. Sold in 15 yd x 2" rolls. I put the insulation on then wrapped the aluminum foil tape around. It kind of looks like crinkled foil but I think it will do the job. I was kind of hesitant about using the fiberglass insulation. If there is anyone that might think this was a bad idea please let me know.

Fiberglass isn't dangerous, but it's probably not quite as effective as the foam.

No, we're talking about self-adhesive closed-cell neoprene (sponge) foam with aluminum foil backing. The stuff you're talking about is MUCH more expensive and rigid. It won't form to the contours of the ducts like the neoprene does.
Check the local hot-rod shop. They'll probably carry the stuff you're looking for. That's where I got mine, and it made a noticeable difference. Not sure how the stuff from Home Depot stacks up against the real thing, but it's probably cheaper. The stuff I got was around $15 a roll.
