at least I think its a short. this weekend while out cruising the radio shut off and the truck just died. got out checked the battery opened the hood, nothing obvious there jumped in turned the key pushed the button and it fired up. went on to drive another 20 miles or so with no issues.
any thoughts?
thanks
mike
Yes I agree with Fordf348 and Jack Orchard. Clean battery posts and terminal ends and replace if necessary. Check cable grounds to frame and ground from firewall to engine. I also check ground connections using a test light. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!
Electrical issues are tough to troubleshoot when it is not acting up at the time you're doing the testing. Doing the routine checks suggested is a good start. Now is the time to be super observant.
Did you hit a bump?, were you turning?, what was running electrically? Was any work done recently that may have caused this? Think about what would kill the entire truck. Ignition switch as suggested?
Must have been more than just ignition system issue if radio went off too. If you disconnect battery while engine running many vehicles will keep running. Not sure how yours is set up. Generator or alternator? Do you have a kill switch?
thanks for all the ideas guys, it is a 12 volt system and I did put a new end connector on the voltage regulator 5 months ago. at the time was just driving, no turns no bumps just shut off all electrical. I hate sporadic issues especially electrical.
i'll get some time this weekend to check it out.
thanks again
mike
