No electrical power

This 1980 F150 is one adventure after another.

Was feeling pretty cocky I got the idle like purr and the brakes solid.

Then, this morning, between last night the radio must have lost power, all stations lost, but the truck started right up.

got to where I was going, it restarted and got me home like normal.

Now, no electrical at all. I have 12v at battery. I checked fusible link coming off starter solenoid and it has 12v after it.

I have wiring diagrams and I am going dizzy trying to figure it out, but just a hunch, could it be ignition switch or connector?

It has no power in accessory, start or run. not for anything.

Follow the negative batt cable and remove, clean and apply dielectric grease to all the points on the frame and motor it connects to. May as well clean all the ground points throughout the truck if your up to it. Also remove solenoid clean the mount area apply dielectric and remount and clean up the connections on the positive side too!

My 83 did the same thing. At first it wasn't charging, then it was charging 17 volts into the battery. I shut it off, and now nothing. Now the headlights don't work, no accessories or anything. Battery is fully charged. I haven't figured it out yet, but I'll let you know when I do.

Thanks, I did that it appears well.

Cost me $2 for the grease and about 3 hours labor (mostly trying to find the right sockets). There were 3 lugs and the battery connector on negative cable. Another jumper from block to firewall under hood. Cleaned up starter solenoid connections and battery terminals.

Aye fellers I'm a bit late with this post but nonetheless. Quite often we work to ensure a good&clean connection at all the positive connections in our vehicles and yet ignore the grounds. Hmmm? Without the proper grounds, an electrical connection simply doesn't work. Disconnect the negative terminal from a battery and even with a good alternater..it won't charge. Or it may overcharge! I wasted a huge wad of money searching for a similar problem...fried 3 batteries in 3 months doing so. And endured a host of problems. Vehicle stalled when turning on the headlights! (I work nights so that was not an option!) Vehicle stalled when switching from high-beam to low beam! Turning on the radio/heater-defroster fan was like turning off the ignition switch! Arrrghhh! Turned out to be corroded ground connections...many dollars later. Glad you figured it out so soon my friend. Audie..the oldfart..
