hey i just recently bought a 1987 ford f150 it has the EFI 302 automatic with 84503 miles on it. and the fuel gauge sits on full when the truck is off and then moves further past full when the truck is turned on. what causes this and how do i fix it?
Check your grounds. Is it dual or single tanks? My '87 pegs past full when switched to front tank and I think i have a bad ground with infinite resistance.
Really, It could be bad grounds or sending unit. Check your grounds at the tank, selector switch, and at the valve on the rail. You might need to drop the tank and manually move the sending unit float. After 20+ years, things do get dirty and need attention.
like i know you said itis on the rail but ware abouts on it.. towards the front back middle..i was under there the other day and seen nothing that looked like a valve..thats why i asked.
okay so I think I found the valve but cant seem to find the ground wire. is there a particular color of wire that I am looking for? and how do I test it to make sure its grounded right?
