Got a 2001 EB 5.4 4WD. Started noticing that when I stop at the light and the car is about to stop or already stopped, my brake pedal keeps going and goes almost all the way to the floor. So I figured it was time to change the rear brakes cause it's been a while. I ended up replacing both rear calipers, rotors and pads. Bled all 4 wheels just to be on safe side...took it out for a test drive and experienced the same exact issue....the truck stops ok it seems but towards the point where truck is almost stopped the brake pedal just keeps going if you push on it.
No idea what else it could be.
Any ideas would be very very appreciated.
If the brake pedal just keeps depressing slowly, and you don't have any brake fluid leaks, it usually indicates that you have a leaky master cylinder. A leaky master cylinder won't leak brake fluid out of the system, but rather internally, and you won't see a decrease in brake fluid level in the reservoir..

I'm not sure if this is your problem, but I had the same issue with my Navigator. Its like the brakes quit working when you get down to 3 or 4 mph, even though your standing on the pedal. Vehicle just wants to keep rolling!
First time this happened about 5 years ago I found a worn left front wheel bearing. Changed the bearing and the problem went away. I figured that the worn bearing was letting the ABS tone ring shift enough that at very low speeds the wheel speed sensor dropped its signal and the ABS would try to engage.
This just happened again two months ago. This time I was abl to pull an ABS code that indicated an intermittent wheel speed sensor, this time for the right front wheel. Pulled the RF wheel speed sensor and could see that the tone ring was covered with grease and metal filings, as was the wheel speed sensor. Changed the RF wheel bearing assembly and all is good again.
So check for ABS codes.

Thank you, I replaced the master cylinder and bled the brakes and looks like the problem is solved. I might need to bleed the brakes once or twice more, but it's much better than it had been.
I had a car do the same thing. I replaced the master cylinder and it kinda worked. I used the two person bleed and was never right. I have a Mityvac that uses an air compressor to suck the fluid out. It was a one person job at this point and it works perfectly now.
Thank you everybody for all your help. I did replace the master cylinder and it fixed the problem. The brake pedal now feels just right. It did take me 4-5 times of going around and bleeding every wheel until I was able to get all the air out.
It's not just you, ever since the introduction of ABS it has become harder and harder to bleed brakes the old fashioned way.
Not aware that the abs system would have an effect on bleeding brakes. Would you explain how they're different from non abs systems to make a difference?
Need to learn something everyday.
Would it have to do with the valves in the ABS unit? The car I mentioned above, I would have to turn the key on, engine off to bleed the rear brakes due to ABS. The front lines I did not have to do this. A trip to the dealership is in order if not done properly.

Be happy, there are some vehicles out there where you need a diagnostic tool to open the ABS valves for the bleeding process. You kind of are stuck going to the dealer in those cases.
