Okay...2 posts in one day tells me I am working too hard!
I discovered (thanks to all who helped) that the 2 halves of my transfer case are leaking. I tried to get the friveshaft off do I could take the rear side of the transfer case cover off. I pulled the snap rings off of the driveshaft as well as the U bolts in the rear. I have never taken apart a driveshaft before and can't figure out how to get it apart. Any thoughts? I know these are balanced so I don't want to mess it up taking it off. Once it is off, the rest of the job looks easy. Anything else I should look for? Thanks in advance for the help. You don't have to remove the snap rings from the yoke to remove the driveshaft...put those back in. The driveshaft flange will unbolt from the transfer case flange, 4 bolts, usually 12 point metric heads.Scribe a line across the flages for reassembly. Dont drop the driveshaft or put a dent in the tubing.

Mike , If the leak is between the halves of the TC , All you have to do is drain the fluid out of the TC , Remove the rear driveshaft by removing the U bolts at the rear driveshaft , Mark the driveshaft & the pinion shaft so you reinstall the driveshaft in the same position , Remove the speedo cable & extension housing , Once thats done you will see a snap ring on the output shaft of the TC , remove it . Now remove all the Torx bolts & slide the back half of the case off . Clean the case halves . Also , Check to make sure the fluid pick up tube screen is clean & that it is firmly installed in the front half of the TC . Once you run a bead of the black Rtv on the front half of the TC , Slide the rear section on & tighten the Torx bolts . Youll have to use Rtv on the extension housing as well .
