iI have an 89 F250 with tilt steering wheel and column shift automatic. My ignition key had been turning hard, especialy in cold weather. The part inside the column that unlocks the shifter as well as pushes the rod down to the starter switch broke. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Were you able to find a replacement part? I haven't talked to the local Ford parts and service yet, but I'm not expecting this individual part to be available.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Feb-02 AT 04:27 AM (EST)]Hi Nirto,
My F150 wouldn't start today when I got out of work I can usually just put the truck into park a time or two with some force and get it to start up but noth today it doesn't think it is in park anymore. This time no luck... Is there a set of wires on the tranny I can splice to make the truck start with out it being in park? Just to get me home to replace or redo the linkage which looks rusty, but stuill functional. I thought it would be a button on the tranny or something but can't find it???
Thanks for any help or reply,
J
The neutral start switch is on the transmission under the shift lever arm. You can start it at the solenoid. Make sure you are in park and jump the small terminal to the battery cable terminal that goes to + battery post.
