Five Star Cab

Hello this is my first post so here goes and I have a 1948 F-1. I have read around on here and have not found what I am looking for. I was wanting some more information on the five star cab. My cab has a chrome windshield moulding, door panels, a place to mount an interior light, driver and passenger door locks, arm rests(missing), door panels, and driver and passenger sun visors. What else came with the five star cab.

I have read that they did not come with door access panels by I have them.?

Thank you.

Hi. This seems to be the week for new folks on the forum. Welcome aboard!

There were a couple of discussions of the 5-star options during the last week or two. If you hang on for a little while, you'll probably get responses from the 5-star owners and experts this evening or tomorrow when everybody goes back to work (forum joke - sorry to hit you with it on your first visit but I couldn't resist. )

Enjoy the site and hang around, you'll get lots of info, answers, and even a few laughs. Be prepared for a little good-natured ribbing and don't be afraid to dish some out as you get to know the crew.

I wonder if you have a correct cab since the 5 star cab started in '51. You listed just about everything. I have two 5 star trucks.

Welcome to FTE. The info here is the best, but you know what they say about that line between genius and insanity? - 'nuf said.....

I agree with Nathan - unless someone swapped in later parts, no 48 ever had the chrome/ss trim on the windshield that I know of.

If it is a '48 your vin should read 88RC 123456 for a V8 or 87HC 123456 for a 6 cyl. The first 8 is significant.

You might enjoy this website - there's lots to look at there. Go to the left column, click on 'Year ID' then from the drop down menu choose Ford/Merc and then '51-'55 (41-50 will also help compare the differences)

This website is also excellent for historical background.

Thanks for the replies.

Earl thanks for the welcome.

51dueller I know the cab itself is correct because of the back glass, but someone could have swapped the doors but what about the holes for sun visors.

mtflat there is a slot around the windshield for the chrome strip but it is missing.

If you have the slot in the rubber for the mouldings, then they used a gasket for a 51-52 truck. It's the same except for the slot. 48-50 never had door panels or the mouldings. You could get the optional visor and armrests. Here's the list of options from the Ford Data book that all salesmen had back then.

4.27 rear axle
11" clutch
Heavy duty 3 speed tranny
4 speed non synchro tranny
6.50x16 8 ply tires
sponge rubber pad in seat
spare tire
Spirolounge seat ( replacing drivers seat)
Recirculating heater or Magic aire heaterHD radiator
HD fan
right hand tail lamp
right hand windshield wiper
HD rear springs
Arm rests

The following were available at the dealer:

HD battery ( 100, 120 or 135 amp hr)
Cigarette lighter
Fire extinguisher
Locking gas cap
Governor
generator ( 40 or 60 amp)
Dual horns
Engine compartment light
Road lamps
Spot lights (r/h or l/h)
Utility lamp
Relector flares
Radiator grille guard
Radio
R/h ext. mirror
Seat covers
Starting crank and ext.
r/s sun visor
Windshiewld washersVacuum pump for wipers (V8 only)
Throttle control

These are for the F-1 series. These also fit the larger series and there are more for the big trucks only.

Thanks for the info barry.

Since the chrome strip is missing it leaks a little in the rain but I have not got around to replacing it yet, plus I am in the process of building it.

Does anyone have any pictures of the inside of a five star cab?

Thank you
