I think I narrowed down my random starting problem. I replaced the starter relay mounted on the fender. No help. It is the neutral safety (start) switch.
I read the FSM (page 17-02) and it looks like it is mounted on the transmission. Is that correct? What exactly do I have to do to it? Replace it? Adjust it? Corroded wire maybe? Where exactly is it located and from which side should I crawl under it? Thanks.
It is mounted on the drivers side of the tranny where the shift lever enters the trans. You have to remove the nut that holds the shift onto the shaft and then remove the 2 bolts holding the nss to the trans. You could try adjusting it to see if it helps, but it will probably need top be replaced after years of road grime.Good luck.
Hey guys, you know mine is going right now. I'll change it 8/6, but why in the world would an engineer advise to have it put there in the first place. My 92' isn't adjustable, but when the new one goes in, you'll bet there'll be a bit of RTV around the wiring and the plastic connector!! Talk with you guys later....
I had to replace the one in my 89 Bronco 3 times before I finally got fed up and cut the connector off the harness and soldered the wires together.Make sure that is not where the problem lies before shelling out the dough for a new switch.Turned out my harness had an extra wire that the switch didn't and water was getting into the connector.Good Luck.
Hey there jarus and welcome to the Forum! I was wondering about that. Do you now have the capability to start your engine in any gear now? Just a question for others that have a soldering gun and nothing better to do! HEE HEE! Thanks for the info.. I find it quicker to get on the Forum, than open my repair manual most of the time.
Talk with you guys later....
