I'm sure its not a big deal to do it, but man just part of me is really uncomfortable with the idea of doing it. I mean what if I change my mind down the road or need to put my originals back in? I know it's probably a non-issue, but just can't get over it.
In all honesty I would source a set of OEM Harley take-off's before going aftermarket if you want the blacked out look. Aftermarket housings tend to have crappy reflectors so the beam pattern on the ground isn't the best (much like my MKM one-piece's, I compensated by swapping 9005's into the fog's), the adjusters for up and down are typically condensed into one adjuster (right is up/out, left is down/in), and they aren't sealed very well. If you do get them, I'd recommend taking the lenses off immediately and putting some rubber butyl glue or silicone around them to ensure they're sealed up properly. I hit ONE mud puddle and my signal housings were filled with silty water.
Not trying to poop on your parade, I agree those housings look cool. But I would rather see you get something you like that looks cool and is of superior quality than something that looks cool and that's about it.
I have a friend who installed those headlights, as well as another forum member here who had them installed, and both had great things to say about them. I know most members here think I am a wuss for not wanting to cut my header panel, but just can't bring myself to it
