I have a 1978 F150 that I use for a plow truck. Recently the starter stopped working. The positive wire was worn so I replaced it, along with the ground wire to the batter and the starter. I was still getting nothing. Tonight I replaced the cab mounted solenoid. As soon as I connected the batter the starter engaged, even with the key out of the ignition. I am not much of a mechanic and am wondering if I should be suspecting that the new solenoid is bad or could there be something in the ignition? Not sure how to test it other than another new solenoid. Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have seen that when you are not using the correct solenoid or if you have the two little wires crossed. I would unplug them and test them with a test light I think the one towards the front of the truck is the ignition but I ain't sure
pull the starter wire off touch the positive to the battery and make that the only wire going to it if you don't hear a click you might be able to hit it with a wrench and fix it if there is a click it's an internal short and isn't fixable
