Hey everyone. So yesterday I finally got down to work on the truck. Put on the rebuilt starter went to start it and I have a bit of an issue. I lose ignition when I let off the starter. If I hold the starter the truck runs, but of course thats just tearing the **** out of my starter. The truck has an new solenoid I put on when the starter intially crapped out, in hopes that was the issue and not the starter. So I believe the ignition side of the solenoid is bad but not sure. Also there is a box about 4" by 4" mounted on the driver side under the hood with a black goo running out of it? Any ideas? '77 F150 6.6 C6
Well they don't have '77 in there. And I'm not sure if they changed from '76. Could it be my ignition switch? The initial time I tried to start it I bumped the starter and released the key and the starter stayed engaged for about 5 seconds before it disengaged.

I have had this happen a few times over the years (hold the key on to keep it running). Some times it was a temporary glitch , Other times I had to replace the box (where the goo is ) ....
If the starter remains engaged after you let off the key , it may be the solenoid doing that ..
The box says "Switches" made in bridgesport or something like that. And it doesn't look like an ignition module anyway? Its like a 4" by 4" box. I'm clueless at wiring, so anything is help. haha I'll upload a pic when im down there.
You're saying that the truck fires up when the key is in START, but as soon as you let off the key to let it sit in the RUN position, the engine quits? That sounds like the ignition switch. Hot-in-START power for the coil comes from the "I" post of the starter solenoid, but once the key is left in RUN, power for the coil is sourced through the switch (so is hot-in-RUN power for the ignition module). If these circuits do not continue to receive power once the key returns to the RUN position, the engine will shut off.
The box with the goo is the ignition module. The goo is black epoxy that seals the underside; with age and heat the epoxy runs out. It needs to be replaced in your case.

Ill just pick up a module and switch and replace both. Might as well, not that expensive anyway. I'll post the results!
