starter staying engaged

When I turn off the engine, all the power turns off, but the engine seemed like it was still running. I thought I had a bad starter, but then I replaced starter, ans solenoid as well as a lot of other things. I ran it all day, no problems until this evening. I stopped at my friends house down the street, and when I started the engine to come home, it sounded like the starter was still engaged. Needless to say...starter is shot. Anyone have a clue what could keep the power going to the starter? Could it be in the switch itself?

Any clues would be helpful, and thanks!

It's going to be difficult to catch if it's a "sticking" ignition switch. Remove the ignition wire (small red wire with blue tracer) from the starter solenoid (top) on the passenger fender under the hood by the battery, and measure with a voltmeter to ground under various circumstances to see if its sending the +12VDC signal to the starter when it shouldn't. You should ONLY see +12VDC on this wire when your TRYING to crank the motor. If you have already replaced the solenoid, its probably gotta be the ignition switch. If I'm wrong someone else chime in.

You are probably right. However, it isn't unlikely that your new solenoid was bad out of the box. I had this problem and ate up two starters before I figured out my brand new solenoid was the problem. I only figured it out because apparently it is very common and many people get bad brand new starter solenoids. Just something to consider.

Good point, my Bronco doesn't get used that often and i'm on my 3rd or 4th one as of the other day. I have never had one that stuck though, just no-start issues.

@Thunderhorn, when I changed the starter the first time, I changed the solenoid too. I have had that happen to me before as well. In any event, it seems to be fine with the new switch, new starter, and new solenoid. When I examined the switch, it was in bad shape. Thanks for the assist lads! Hopefully that was it.
