I have an OEM 1965 tailgate. A little rough around the edges, needs dents removed, and some rust repair. I have a later, with the line around the letters, maybe 67 Tailgate that is pristine and matches my truck.
I'm leaning toward installing the incorrect tailgate because it just makes this easier and its already in great condition. Do you think I should repair and use the original or install the newer one?
Also, what is an approximate value of an original 1965 talgate with a few dents and some very mnor rust repair? Maybe I could sell the original and buy more part for my project.
I have an OEM C4TZ1964/66Styleside tailgate. A little rough around the edges, needs dents removed, and some rust repair.
I have a later C7TZ 1967/72 Styleside tailgate with the ovate scallop line around the letters, that is pristine and matches my truck.
I'm leaning toward installing the incorrect (correct 'service partreplacement') tailgate because it just makes this easier and its already in great condition.

It's easy to go the simple way, but just ask yourself, 'am I going to kick myself in the pants later down the road'. JMO,,,,,,,, unless it's really in bad shape, I'd fix and keep the original. Again, JMO
Are you restoring to original or restoring to your satisfaction or preference? If your not going back to a bone stock original resto I'd go with the pristine tailgate. Repaired areas have a way of coming back on down the road if they're not done the absolute correct way which usually means more money and more time.

I agree! I would install the pristine tailgate; meantime, either try 'do it yourself' repair, or get a couple quotes from reliable body shop on having them do it. If reasonable and pleased with results either sell the original, or swap and sell the other?
