On a 2015 F150 SCrew, Lariat, are there any tricks to programming the GDoor open button on the sun visor. I have followed the instructions, cleared out any old code, bought new batteries for the opener, etc....?
I have successfully programed this process on my Mustang, A Tacoma, +++. But so far not on my truck. HELP, TIRED OF FINDING THE GD (garage door) CLICKER!
I found progaming of the door openers....garage, gate etc...on my new Lariat to be a pain in the butt. I traded a 2010 Lariat for the new 2015 on and I thought the door openers would be easy to program....wrong.
The instructions say that you need to get or find a hand held opener that is already working and hold that within an inch of the buttons on the sun visor to complete the job. I called the company who makes the thing and the woman who took the call told me that the only advice she could give me if I couldn't find an old opener around the house would be to "go buy one." I finally borrowed one from a buddy for the airport gate and a neighbor for the gated community.
So I guess the cause of these problems is some kind of security enhancement or maybe a manufacturing (in China for sure) requirement. In any case it's lousy customer service for an owner of a new $50K +/- truck. But I bet the problems are worse in Chevys and Dodges :-)

I'm confused why you would expect to program one of these without a working clicker... Also confused why you called a manufacturing company without talking to your dealership. Even if you had a green sales guy, someone could have helped you out. I have folks bring their units in fairly often to update their phones and door openers and what not. I don't know of any changes to the F150 that would cause the opener not to work, so perhaps it is a warranty claim? To be honest, you'll need to be prepared for them to blame your remote first, so make sure you verify that the opener works on your other cars. Bring it with you so you can show them that it will program on one of the in stock units. If they then can't get it to program on yours, I'd think it would be warranty at that point.
Well you don't need it if you have access to the unit, but I wouldn't think many gated communities grant you that access. I've never lived in one though so I could be wrong. If it's just for your own garage then you should be good. I've always found the clicker option to be significantly easier and have never tried the other way myself.
