Ranger randomly quits
Got a 1986 2.3EFI ranger that on occasion just feels like it's bogging down then just quits and will not restart. Typically happens if I start accelerating from a stop and it's hot. If I let it set for an hour or so to cool down I can go out and crank it up and drive it home. This is very random and I'm afraid to get to far from home with it. On another note a year or so ago the inertia switch under the dash for some reason overheated and melted the wires to the switch. I was out of town so had to have it towed to a shop. The mechanic replaced the switch and away I went. For some reason I didn't ask him what would of caused that to happen and have always wondered. Any one have any ideas?

Inertia switch overheating may have been a sign of the fuel pump working too hard trying to pump fuel through a clogged filter & that could cause a bogging/wimpy power problem from low fuel pressure & inadequate volume. So, when last was the fuel filter changed & have you performed fuel pressure & volume over time tests, along with fuel pump current draw tests????
