Where does the sending unit enter the tank? I presume up high and the pickup tube turns down and goes towards the bottom of the tank. Can you see it? I don't know how those tabs could block fuel flow if your filter sock is in place.

In cab tank on my 75 has the sending unit up high. That is only a float on these trucks .
The pickup tube is part of the tank, down low. Don't think the tube itself is actually removable; nor does it have a filter sock as far as I could see(and the tank was close to empty)
These items were traveling along the bottom of the tank near the pick up position.
Will know for sure after a few tankfuls if they were the cause of the fuel interruption.
Thanks

I'll bet that the pick up tube on the tank sender is missing the filter screen and the 'odd' pieces are plugging the end of the pick up tube.
