Last week, I was filling up my fuel tank and noticed the pump was running really slow (10 minute fillup). Nonetheless, I let it continue, but it failed to stop when it filled the tank. I was sitting in the cab and heard the gas overflowing and promptly went out to stop it. The station manager at the time gave me a free car wash and refunded me a gallon of fuel. I went on my way and have been driving it for a few days now and the tank is still reading full.
Is it possible that it just has an excess of fuel in it, or can overfilling the tank damage the level sensor? After I drive to and from work tomorrow (~60 miles) the level should drop significantly, so I'll know if it's indeed stuck.
This is on my 1999 Ford F-150XLT V6.
207,000 miles and still runs great!!!
I fill mine all the way up regularly, it can take as many as 100 miles for mine to come off full, but I do have the 30+ gallon tank, if you have the 24 gallon and that V6 you might be able to get dang near 100 before it comes off full as well, if you have the 30+ it will probably be even more.
