96 XLT lock remote

i have a 96 F150 XLT super cab short bed 4X4. truck is well optioned with 5.0 auto electronic shift 4X4. tilt cruse air windows and power locks. it all works. it is a true XLT not just a set of badges on the fender. it's build date is 10-95. My son in law has a 96 F150 XLT built 9-95 and his has the remote locks. but when we looked under the dash in my truck we found that my truck was never equipped. according to everything i have read it is supposed to have key less remote locks. with the exception of 4X4 on my truck and him having power seats our trucks are the same. he ran the vin for my truck and it is listed as a 96 XLT. i have a stray plug under the dash i thought was for the control box but when we compared it to his truck. his control box plug ls completely different. the part number on my under dash wiring harness has a F6 part number. if everything i have read is correct then i should have at least the plug for the control box. has anyone else found that there 96 XLT was not equipped ? or do i simply have a ob ball truck?

I have a '96 XLT with all the aforementioned options...and no remote keyless entry (RKE).
I've looked at a lot of 96-97 pickups over the years, (I was a Ford dealership parts counterman for 15 years) and I don't recall ever seeing one so equipped.
It was certainly an available option, but not common back then.
