Ok...I had to try it so rep points back at ya George...I even found the rep comments sent to me over the last year...never knew that stuff was there....wow...
See, you're a better guy than you thought you were! It's not a popularity contest but you can kind of ID the people that are helpful on the forum over time based on their rep squares. Have a good Sunday...

'Rep squares' too? You mean those little 'green stamps'? Does anyone remember S&H Green Stamps?
Dang....I just thought those little green squares were some kind of gauge for the number of posts...they seemed to be related to that number anyway.
Ok...where is the catalog page I go to trade in my green stamps??
You have my complete and total sympathy, Newbie. I don't know how anybody can find anything under the hood of modern cars ... with its computer-controlled EFI version ... voltages having to keep working in conjunction with a bunch of electrical plugs all subject to corrosion. All the young guys love this stuff.

Of course I remember S&H green stamps! I used to stick them in books for my mom when I was a kid.
Now we get charge cards that accumulate points (and sometimes give a little cash kickback)--the etronic equivalent of green stamps.
Obviously you can get more green squares with more posts, but there are people with 3000 posts and one square. Those are usually people who do not help others and just take threads off topic, or always have something bad to say, etc. (All of us can have a bad day or be a little grumpy sometimes.) There was a feller like that around the van forum who I haven't seen for a while (maybe he got banned..) People would try to help him and he yelled at them and called them names.
JWA is another excellent resource per the green squares, as are most of the moderators all over the page. So go forth and spread good info! I still don't get the different colors of green unless they just change the color every 5 squares or something,
George

I feel like a kid in kindergarten thats getting little gold stars for his drawings!
From my observation on the reputation summary, it looks like if someone gives you a comment along with the kudos it changes the color to the other shade....but...I really dont know either...thats a guess.
I dunno if it's hijacked. We solved the problem and bringing up the way to reward people who help is a natural evolution of the thread. And we helped you find reaffirm that you're a good guy... G

And...by the way....
Guilty!
Oh yeah---the rep points "banner" is fun to look at if nothing else---like stripes on a uniform!

This thread had been running amok with insults and such previously but Tom cleaned out the unhelpful bits ---that was high jacking of the completely unnecessary type.
But yes sending reps is just a nice way to say publicly say thanks to someone has at least trying to be helpful. While not THE arbiter showing whose helpful and whose just a PITA disruptive element its a virtual high five.
