I prefer the TireMinder style of screw on pressure units. When i need to add air, it verifies to me that the sensor is working properly as it gives an error indication till i screw it back on.
The newer Tirminder systems allows you to separate the truck and trailer tire sensors so you don't get erroneous sensor failures when you are not pulling the trailer.
I run a sensor on all tires, including the spare. Cost is a little higher initially but to me is worth it in the long run.

I have a Tire Tracker (same thing as minder) system sitting here, 4 tire, and the TST screw on sensors are fundamentally the same.
I have flow thrus on the trailers, but cap style on the truck.
TST also allows u to turn off/on the trailer tires.. one reason I picked them. also the sensors respond much faster than my tracker. I had a tire blow on my trailer (with my custom truck inside) 12 miles from home, but the sensor didn't wake up until I put the spare on!..
TST's are alive before I get out the driveway. the monitors are similar.
