Hey guys here again for some help on the beast. For about the passed few weeks my truck has been blowing white smoke out the pipes at start. Once i pick a gear and run it the smoke turns to its usual black haze. Its starting to worry me that i blew something and iam burning coolant. Ive been told that its the moisture in the air and since my exhaust isnt hot enough to warm the pipes quick to where iam getting this effect.
Not that i know of but the glow plug idea is possible. My contorller doesnt time right so i have to flick the igniction a few time to crank over on the first try

put a small led light in the glow plug line. this will tell you if the glow plugs are getting power or not. i have never trusted the wait to start light.

the led will tell you for sure whether the glow plugs are getting power or not.

white smoke for a few seconds on a cold start is normal when it is cold out, or if a glow plugs circuit is not in perfect shape.

Thats what its going to be then cause when i tested the controller/sylonoid with light tester i only get power for a split second. Another is when iam cruising slow or following a piece of equipmet i get the effect of white smoke but as soon as i open her up its goes to normal back to black at take off.
could be a combo of slightly retarded timing and the GPs going out. mine puffs a little on cold start, I am sure one or two are bad but dreading pulling them with turbo in way and unknown previous history. She starts fine in the summer and i just plug it in if it's gonna be below freezing.
I'm going to say you are probably somewhat retarded also; these pumps become retarded as they age due to how the internals wear. Advance it a bit, and see how it feels.

how many miles on the pump and injectors? you may be due for a "tune up" my 88 has a bad injector that will cause it to start blowing white if it idles for more than 10 minutes or so, and shuts that cylinder off if idles for more than 30 minutes.

once i run it it clears up until it idles again.

do yourself a favor and get injectors when you get the pump. it is easier to do it all at once. because once you put the new pump on you will be calling for injectors within a few weeks.

Okay good to know but is that the only thing that could be causeing it. I checked the coolant iam not buring it. I have to fix this before it gets worse. And when i put it back in timing is that that wide part or thin part of the dime
