fuel leak

go ahead and get a new filter so you get the new o ring. (it is probably ripped)
while you have the filter out, check the old o ring for rips or tears. also check the cap closely as they can crack too. also don't use a ratchet on the cap. use a socket.
when you put on the new o ring on make sure it is in the right slot in the cap, and cover it with some fresh motor oil to lube it up so it doesn't rip again when you tighten it.
turn the key on for 4-5 full fuel pump cycles (listen for the pump to turn off)
then start her up and re check for leaks.
if you still have a leak after that, it may be leaking from the regulator side.
if your going to crack that open, you should go ahead and get the blue spring kit from ford.
that way, you will have all the gaskets you might need while you are in there and also you will know for sure that you have a blue spring.
it will also come with a new cover in case that breaks.
before starting on that use a turkey baster to remove all the fuel from the bowl so it doesn't go every where.

With the engine running, run your finger around the fuel filter housing right at the cover/housing interface. If it gets wet, then it's your cover o'ring. If you don't detect any wetness, then run your finger under the regulator housing. If it gets wet, then it's you regulator housing o'ring (pretty common). Get the blue spring kit if you haven't done the upgrade as it comes with everything you'll need.
