White cable coming from the left side engine bay, passenger side. It is completely deteriorated. There is a clear, what looks like a tube inside. I believe it has to do with the actuator in the AC/Heat.
Is there any way to replace or repair it? Looks like I would have to cut open the wire wrap and follow it through the firewall. I am not sure its worth the chance of damaging twenty year old of wires and hoses. Might just wait until it fails.
The vacuum tube controls the motor that controls the outside air/re-circulation air door inside the heater air plenum chamber. Basically, if you have the temp control to high heat, it allows more air to pass through the plenum, thereby delivering more heat. It also helps with the A/C as well. If you have it on OFF or MAX A/C, the door stays closed to only allow the re-circulation of inside cab air. If you have it on reg. A/C, it allows outside air into the cab to be cooled.
That tube has turned to powder in almost every OBS Ford truck I've ever seen.
I clipped mine about two inches back in the wrap, and used a vacuum line connector & new line form Pep Boys... The rubber original seems to degrade over time. The connector & new vacuum line are in the H.E. L. P. section...
