The American Autowire kit I purchased from Mid Fifty had very good diagrams for wiring up my truck. The only problem that I have run into so far it the Battery Indicator light. The instructions do not show the Battery light as being wired up.
Here are the instructions, pages 3-5 show the difference between the 53-55 and the 56.
I can't locate any pics of my original instrument cluster wiring, but I am sure that it was wired up since there was a light bulb installed. I hooked up the wiring following the 56 cluster diagram, but the Battery Light stays on all the time. I have a GM alternator and have verified it is correctly wired. I have contacted the manufacturer. All they said was I had a 56 dash cluster installed and to wire it as such. The alternator is putting out the correct voltage and is charging the battery.
So my question is did the original 54 have the Battery light hooked up? If so does anyone have a pic of the original wiring. Or even a been there done that..here is what you need to do!
I pulled this off the net, it has been around here a long time. It is listed as for a 55, I don't know if 54 & 55s were the same. Someone else will have to answer that ? But I hope it may help.
I found a similar diagram...so I know it was hooked up. Not sure why they don't show it being wired on the 53-55 diagram but hooked up on the 56. Will have to go back and trace the wires again to see if I have a pushed pin.
