I figured I would kick this off with a link and recommendation on LED replacements for 12v Halogen lights..
My purpose was not so much from the perspective of energy consumption - but more from the perspective of reduced heat, better light and reduced replacement frequency.
Here's a link to the product that I used.
They are 40w equivalent.. You can read my review along with pictures as well..
I have more LEDs on the way for the normal ceiling lights (1056/1041 replacements) and will post that later in this thread.
Along with purchasing a new awning LED string -
I also replaced all my external lights with new LED and will gather that information up and post it here as well...
Just a tip. Mine came with LED's in all but the bedroom sconces and the pendants over the kitchen island. I tried swapping in LED's there and quickly understood why they didn't come that way from the factory. They do a great job in the regular puck areas etc. but when the globe or dome covering them is colored, the color will change.
I just installed one of these tonight and took this picture..
The light on the right is a single LED unit. The one on the left is the standard incandescent..
It looks pretty bright to me. These were the only lights on in the camper.
Well other than the dehumidifier thatwas running in there..
Not too bad, but color balance in pics is hard to tell sometimes too. I bought an LED reading lamp some years ago. It had this spooky arc welder vibe to the color.
I agree Ted.. And if I hadn't taken the picture myself, I couldn't corroborate the image to the real thing.. There is slightly more flare to the LED light in the picture, but the color is remarkably spot-on..
Are they as bright as the bulbs that came with the RV ??
What you see in Big-foot's picture is how mine look.
Wife says they make it like daylight. These are "white" lights. Some of the LEDs are a soft white, or "warm" white, which are more like the bulbs that came with the trailer.
I'm leaving town today, but, tomorrow I will put a stock bulb in one dual light to show the difference between the two.
Also, just a heads up. These LEDs have a positive/negative side, so if they don't work on first try, turn it over, rotate it, and try again. All of them worked right out of the package, no duds.
The incandescent bulbs look warmer but the pure white of the LED sure seems to put out more light...
I just hope that they don't start to bother my eyes after a few weeks of living with them..
Thanks for posting!
