wow some of those figures are really nice....
I wish I could afford a new cam, intake, carb and heads.. unfortunately I just have to use what I already have. np435 have not checked the rear gears yet. the engine I am working on came to me with a .030 overbore 390 mirror block, 3.98 crank, pistons that set even in the block.. no idea what cubes it is exactly.. I have put a C4SE-9425A intake on it and am going to run a 600cfm holley.. I hope it will haul 7-10,000lbs of scrap with no issues.. that is what I got the truck for... maybe when I get rich and famous I will go back into it for some upgrades....if I live that long..
Wow, that's a load. I think you need a 445 stroker kit.
What pistons did you use to get the 9.2:1 compression ratio? I've been considering swapping in a 428 crank in my 390. It looks like yours makes plenty of torque to haul my 6000lb camper.
How much total timing do you run? Have you ever had any pinging issues?
Initial is about 12* I think overall is about 38* but I forget. I run premium and never have any pinging trouble. I don't know what it would do on regular but I don't want to have to burn any ethanol to find out.
As much as I love the FE, I got a deal on a Cummins that I couldn't pass up ($250) and traded some stuff to Dad for a tranny, t-case, adapter plate, bellhousing, etc., so it looks as though I will be out of FE's for the time being.

That is cheap and will pull anything you can hook to it.
I wish we lived closer. I'd sure like to have that 410 your currently running.
Another update. As much as I love Cummins power, I still can't bring myself to ditch the FE. I've been building a little fund lately for the a set of heads, intake, carb, and camshaft. Since I am going to have to lay out almost $3,000 as it is, I got to wondering about a roller camshaft.
I like the 12v Cummins in my F-450 but I also like a good fe engine like the 406 I have waiting to go in my Fairlane.
Although they're pricey I'd recommend a roller cam in any engine with the low zinc levels in todays motor oils.
Don't know anything about the Lunati Voodoo roller cams but we ran a couple of the Voodoo flat tappet cams some years ago, where not impressed with overall performance.
A stroker kit will do wonders for torque. Our FE puts out 713 torque. In your case you would want to keep compression down for regular fuel usage. Hydraulic cam, etc.

I have your set up saved , I'll try to rerun with that roller tonight and post results .
I don't have a dyno program any more could I get you to run my 406 fe engine. I'd like to know if it would make the factory rated 405hp.
The specs are
4.130 bore, std 428cj block
3.780 stroke, 427 steel crank
10-1 flat top Ross pistons (thinking about thicker head gsk for 9.5-1)
Eagle H beam rods
Dove Engineering 428cj high velocity aluminum heads
2.090 intake, 300cfm @ .400 lift
1.660 exhaust, cfm don't remember, info's in the box with the heads put up.

Factory aluminum intake with three Holley two barrel carbs, cfm n/a but I'm going to find out.
Just figure it with an aluminum duel plane intake and 750 cfm carb.
