My short bed on my 02 has rusted out pretty badly and neds replacement. I tend to carry a lot of tools and stuff in the cab and the idea of storing that in the back is attractive, but I also need some bed space for weed whips, chainsaws etc. I would like some cover on them when not in use. I like the OEM look but am not opposed to a utility body that looks well integrated. I know Knapheide makes a unit kind of like that but I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts or suggestions.
i dont know what brands or what to point you towards, but i have seen some trucks with utility beds on it like you mentioned, that still look nice and dont make the truck look like a beater work truck. functional for work yet still nice looking for regular driving. im in florida so i dont have to worry about rust lol, but if my f350 dually bed rusted out and i wanted more functionality, i think i'd consider a nice looking utility bed.
my 99 f250 beater was from up north and the bed was rusted, and i took it off with intentions of building a cheap wooden flatbed on it, but since i got my f350 for a daily driver, i dont need the beater truck anymore, so im selling it, and i've half started a wood flatbed build. i will likely finish it just so it has a bed on it for whoever buys it.
there are nice flatbeds also, not sure if you want a full bed with sides but flatbeds can look nice as well, and i've seen plenty of them with locking storage containers under the actual deck.
I don't know where you're located but I found this place while looking for a replacement bed for my 07...Home if you're close and a stock replacement will do the price seems fair enough to me.
I don't know why that link showed up as 'Home' but if you click on it it will take you to School Street Tuck Parts and they have take off bodies.
