Hey Guys,
I'm new on here and I was looking for some advice. I not a skilled mechanic or anything like that by any means but I have some knowledge of trucks and have done that majority of work on my truck (I'm also in the process of restoring a 1980 Jeep CJ7 with a AMC 360!). The problem I'm having with my truck is that 2/3 cross members on my bed are shot! The bed is in great shape and everything I have seen so far they say to replace the whole thing. I would really rather not do that since its alot of money and the bed is still good. What do y'all think ?? Thanks everyone for your time I really appreciate it !
there are replacement crossmembers on ebay, for about 500 dollars, then there is the problem of taking off the bed, flipping it over and welding in the new ones.lots of time and money.
Hey Guys,

I've seen this before. The bed in perfect shape and the cross members rusted apart. Why in the world doesn't ford treat the cross members with the same material as the bed!
I just changed my bed . my crossmembers were rotted out as were my wheel arches. I broke more than 8 t-50 torx bits trying to get it off. I ended up using my torch and blasting the heads off the bolts and then removing the rest of what was left. when you start removing it to repair it it will fall apart on you fast. I wouldn't screw with the braces and the work involved with welding them in. I got my bed off craigslist for 1200. it had a few dings and I had one small patch in the wheel arch that I had to fix. my cab is solid as is everything else. its a 2001 crew cab 4x4 with 194400 miles and it keeps going so I keep fixing when it breaks . its a better truck than I can afford new and we have been thru a lot together. I love my superduty.
So, I thought I would give you guys a bit of an update. Out of curiosity I went to my local Ford dealer about this issue to see what they could do. They wanted to cut out the entire bed floor and replace it! But heres the best part $2,600! I just started laughing . What I'm going to do is I contacted my local welding shop and they are fabbing me up some crossmembers and ill install them. Its going to be under $200. I cant imagine what someone would do with out access to tools and a weld shop! Thanks for the help everyone you guys have been great !
