Hello all, I am a new member here and I wanted to ask my first question.
I just got a 93 E250 cargo van that was previously a commercial van. As I was cleaning it, I noticed that the last few feet of the floor as it gets to the rear has a little bit of a dip to it. Is this normal in the floor or is this something bent that I need to look at correcting before I carry on with making a floor for the van?
Picture below shows what I am talking about.
That's not normal, looks like it's seen some pretty heavy loads. Reminds me of a small Fork Lift setting in Wooden Pallets and then being pushed forward and then dragged back out. I would check the Body Mounts for damage before any projects get started.....................
The picture angle might make it look worse than it is. Where the body mounts are is not bent, but in between each cross brace the sheet metal has a dip in it. Almost like something heavy sitting in between each cross brace. So if you were looking at it from the side it would look like a series of W's \/\/\/ where the low points are the unsupported areas of the pan and the top parts are where the body mounts and cross braces are.
The company the vehicle came from was a service vehicle for a printing service and sales company so it carried commercial office printers and components. I doubt there was anything more than a couple hundred lbs in the vehicle at any time.
Here is a shot from underneath where the body mounts are. You can see the dip in the sheet metal between the body mounts. The body mounts look good to me, but I'm not a body mount expert
Here is a shot from a lower angle where you can see how it dips in between each cross brace.
Anything is possible, but in the first pic I see the lower half of the rubber mount darker "cleaner" in color and that probably how much weight it was carrying. That's a pretty good load.....maybe couple hundred pounds per square inch to bend the floor................Pallets of Printer Paper?
The printer company only does printers and toner plus software for managing documents so no pallets of paper.
The bottom of the mount may be cleaner because I used a power wash to clean all the crap off the van and that mount was probably hit from the sprayer since it is right behind the rear wheel.
Assuming the actual frame isn't messed up, it would just be bent floor pans though correct? I'm assuming it shouldn't be any problem putting some plywood or similar down to make a floor? I would of course clean it up and protect the metal from rusting first however.
