1990 F150 Extended Cab Long Bed - 62,844 Miles
351W - E4OD Auto - 4x4 w/camper shell
Looks to be one owner type truck, very meticulously maintained. Had a blown head gasket. Went through an auction and the idiot fork lift operators bent the front and rear driveshafts and crushed the tranny pan. So I got to fix those also.
Started by pulling the heads and noticed the front left piston some water on it. Oil was milky etc. Ended up pulling motor, cleaning up the whole thing and reassembling with new crank, new cam, lifters, water pump, oil pump, timing set etc. All better than stock parts (high volume oil pump and the like) Comp Cam and Comp supporting parts (springs, rockers etc).
With all I have done with this truck I should do headers and exhaust, but am tired of putting money in it at this point. Also put brand new Radiator, plugs wires hoses, just anything and everything it needed. Tranny fluid was cherry red and appears to possibly have been replaced. I replaced the tranny pan with a new Dorman factory replacement and serviced the tranny while we were in there.
I'm just a sucker for these old trucks. This is the second one I have done nearly this exact thing to.
Thanks guys. Unfortunately, I drove the truck 60 miles and the oil pressure went down and it started knocking in the lower end. I am pretty frustrated at this, as I can't imagine what has went wrong here. Put a real oil pressure gauge on it and it runs 25 cold and 15 after warmed up. At this point I am planning on pulling the motor and then the pan and seeing what all the bearings look like.
Got it running this afternoon. Sounds good. Oil pressure at idle, sitting still but in gear got down to 20lbs after break-in and a drive. So it was totally warmed up etc. When driving and during break-in, it would get over 50 lbs.
