I'm starting to get a soft code p0404. Is there a cheap way to fix or Band-Aid it for the time being? I plan on doing an egr delete anyway, just curious. Anyway, is there anything besides the actual delete kit that I need to do or check while I'm in there. Thanks.
Here's what I did. More than likely, your P0404 code is due to a stuck EGR valve. Pull it and clean it to get it moving again. This may be hard as the bore around the egr valve can get coked up causing it to stick in intake. Once you get it out, clean it with some carb cleaner and get it moving again.
Things I would do while I was in there;
1. Replace ICP sensor and pigtail
2. Don't buy the EGR delete with the little block off puck for the up pipe. Get the one with the up pipe that has no egr port. (I bought a $50 delete kit on ebay and it's been going strong for while now).
3. If the EGR kit doesn't come with it, a new coolant tube adapter for EGR cooler. The orange one is prone to failure. I have a blue silicone one.
4. Check your turbo drain tube for corrosion, if it's ok, paint it so that it wont rust anymore.
5. Turbo fill line. If you have the braided one, it can leak. Get the rigid one.
6. Look at your harness around the oil temp sensor and the fuel pressure sensor. If the wires are bare, fix it.
7. Blue spring upgrade.
8. See if your oil cooler adapter plate is leaking around where it seals to the bed plate. I've found so many of these leaking due to blue or green oil cooler plate gaskets deteriorating.
9. Check IPR harness for damage. Pull IPR and check for debris in, or damage to, the screen.
DTC P0404 when set all by itself with no other EGR, turbo or air management codes is ambiguous at best. It could simply be the valve is clogged and that other sensors are picking up that something is not quite right. IDS has a nice automated EGR test that tests all relevant sensors, the VGT and the EGR valve statically and dynamically. But I am guessing that you are not using a Ford IDS diagnostic tool so...
I would suggest removing and inspecting the valve first.
