about a month ago my van did the thing where it dumped four quarts of trans oil onto the exhaust creating an awesome smoke screen.id like to avoid this happening again.i plan on adding a second trans cooler in series with the factory one.any reason this is a bad idea?anyone know if the trans fluid goes through the radiator or trans cooler first?
Changed mine years ago for heavy towing.
Bypassed and capped off the radiator tank cooler, they leak into the ATF and tranny killing the tranny.
Put the largest plate and fin cooler available in front of the radiator with an inline ATF filter.
Bypassed the old ATF tranny small cooler at the bottom of the radiator and turned it into a power steering cooler with another inline filter.
All still running original OEM tranny and PS.
Use only full synthetic ATF in these, Mobil 1.
Tube coolers are inefficient and worthless, will overheat an Aero.
Never had any problems with mine overheating, tranny or engine since putting it in, 15 years ago. Bypassed and blocked off the cooler in the radiator side tank, prevents a leak of coolant into the ATF =s tranny death.
