Fuel pressure problem?

my new to me 1996 f250 with the 460 seems to have a fuel pressure problem. When I turn the key on,the fuel pressure rises really slow to 20 psi.(takes a couple minutes to get there) Running fuel pressure is 32 psi. After I shut the engine off, fuel pressure goes up to 40 psi within a couple minutes. Truck runs fine and has good power otherwise. Is this normal? If I remember correctly,my 95 302 fuel pressure jumped up as soon as the key was turned on.

When the key is turned to run but engine not started the fuel pump should run for about a second and then stop, does your truck do that?

94' F350 7.5 fuel pump problem

I have almost the same problem. My in tank fuel pumps won't pressurize. The safety switch button is down too. Not sure if it is a problem with regulator or some other component going to the main pump on the engine. 94 460 EFI. Does anyone have an idea?

First off you do not have a fuel pump on the engine or the frame.
The fuel pressure regulator has nothing to do with fuel pumps running by electric power and has no control over them running at all.
Sounds like you are saying either the tank pumps will not run with either tank selected or they run but there is no pressure build up.

If they run how did you check that there is no pressure build up?
If they do not run at all maybe you have a tripped fuel shutoff switch or the selector switch is bad on the dash.

Thank you. Now I feel like a real nimrod! My fuel gauges are both broken and the rear tank was empty. By switching back and forth between tanks, I then depressed the valve stem on the injector tube to see if there was pressure from each tank after cycling the pumps without starting the engine. Of course no pressure from the rear, then the front did. Cycled it a few times and it fired right up. I'm doing a E4od to ZF swap and thought it was one of the starter safety switches or wiring configuration. Got that all right. Last thing to install is the rear driveshaft which I'm having a hard time finding one. Unless I buy a new one.
Thanks for the help.
