Fuel filters replacement

Well I just finished upgrading to the blue spring and replaced both fuel filters while I was at it. This is the 2nd time that I've replaced the filters since I've owned this truck. I don't remember there being 3 - 4 gallons of fuel that drained from the water fuel separator. Is that normal?

Not normal. Usually pint or so. Was the tank full or under pressure? It might of siphoned is the only thing I can think of.
3-4 gallons, that's alot.

Yes the tank was full. Maybe that's why there was so much. I had a 5 gallon bucket under to catch the fuel and it just kept filling. I finally just went ahead and removed/replaced the filter thinking it would never stop.

Half tank or less and park level or nose up.

I never had a problem 1/2 or full tank. Try removing the fuel cap to relieve any built up press. If that doesn't help you'll have to go Josh's idea but it shouldn't be required.

Changed mine many time's with full tank. Not a problem,I do open the cap.I also fold a absorbent pad and tuck it under the filter housing.Works better than a rag.
