Glow Plug

New to the forum so I hope I'm in the right area for this.

Getting the following codes off of my Hypertech Max Energy. I am running stock programming.
P0672, P0674 & P0401
The truck runs great when warm but if I leave while it's a bit cooler it will shut off and the glow plug light will come on then restart again.
Ford want to charge me $100.00 just to hook it up on the computer. I hate this, it like charging for using a hammer.
What I would like to know is it a good idea to just change the #2 & #4 glow plugs or could there be something else?
For the P0401, I've been getting this for a few years but doesn't seem to make any difference. I have a K&N filter on my truck.

Thanks

If I were you, I would probably change out all 4 glow plugs on the driver's side (even number cylinders) and also the harness (it gets brittle).

Is your EGR deleted?

Then the P0401 may be a sticking EGR valve or even a sticking turbo. You might try cleaning the EGR valve (procedure is in the Tech Folder). Also, keep an eye on boost if you have a boost gauge.

Just put a rebuilt turbo in a couple weeks ago. Don't have a boost gauge but was thinking on getting one. There is the post mount 2 or 3, what do you recommend for gauges in or to monitor the engine?
Will check out the EGR Valve but will probaly buy a new one. Had it out a year or so ago.

I use an electronic gauge system (DashDAQ). Way more expensive than is necessary. You might try starting another thread on gauges (or doing a few searches) - you would probably get more responses.

You have 3 issues, none of which are related.
1) glowplug. Bismic has that covered already
2) your p0401. Dirty valve, stuck turbo, bad ficm voltage, cac system leak, fuel pressue, ebp, icp..... lots of stuff it could be.
3) stalling with a pcm reset.
I think your about to learn what swinging a hammer is all about.

Glow Plug

Your stalling issue is most likly one of the following,
A short in the vref circuit
Poor wiring or relays supplying power to the pcm
Faulty pcm.
