1948 Ignition replacement

1948 Ford F-6, Flat 6, I have a new ignition cylinder, and if need be I have a new ignition housing.
Does anyone have some instructions on replacing them? Should I do both? I got the parts from Dennis Carpenter, not cheap.

I didn't get the keys with my truck so I'm replacing it.

Much appreciated, and if there was a post I missed, please add the link.

I got the whole assembly from DC too. Keys and all. Didn't want to risk a bad switch.

Can you explain how to install the switch?

I told the OP how it's done in a 51, but I don't know if they're the same.

Thanks.

Part of it is in the manual. Replacing the cylinder itself was shown in some threads in the past, an Advanced Search should turn them up.

This is a F-6 1948, it doesn't look like the illustration.

How is yours different? The manual illustrations are sometimes not the best - as this one would suggest that the smooth keyslot bezel has tabs extending from it, for example.

Looks to me like your switch was previously replaced with a non-stock version.

I used to have the same one, NAPA universal. The PO may have filed off the tangs in the dash to make it fit. You just unscrew the bezel to remove. Obviously your new cylinder won't work in it.

yep, you guys were correct. Someone had replaced the original one. I removed it, and found my new one was made for my truck. The only issue now is that I need the bezel Back to LMC. I matched the wires to the correct leads on the new ignition housing. I'm not sure how the cylinder fits in. It appears to lay in there and the bezel holds it all together?

On 51-52's there is a brass peg that holds the cylinder in.

See below, I have several like this but one that's completely different. None say Ford on them??

You put the cylinder into the switch, then put the peg into the hole in the cylinder, thru the slot, to lock it in place.
