Ball Joints.
I am repalcing my worn ball joints and when I got my new ones ther is a replacement threaded top angled spacer. The part that screws into the top spindle arm on the dana 44 axle tube for the taper of the ball joint. Now, do I have to replace this, because it looks like you need a special tool I have never seen before or a hamme rand chissel. thanx

Ball Joints.
This threaded insert sets the preload on the balljoint. The solid design of the axel needs this for adjustment as all ball joints aren't made identical. I have known guys who dont replace it, but they seem to go through ball joints often. There is a special tool, a four prong socket, but i have removed them without it. If you can find the split in the old one and clean it out with a pick or hacksaw blade removal will be easier. There is a torque spec for these spacers, but I dont know it- I just snug them up good after the bottom joint is torqued and before the top joints nut is installed. BTW I gotta do mine this week also.
