I concur on "truss" . And not a bad idea if you plan any serious off roading with the little 44 front end. I've broke a couple of them right in two and it didn't really take that much.
X4 on yes it is an old school "axle truss", I have seen them for sale years ago. Could be home made, not to hard to copy. Same idea like a "Go Rhino" clamp on the axle tube brace, style but the Go Rhino is more of a pinion skid plate/diff cover guard... and not really a axle truss. And some folks though they look good when chrome back in the 80's.
I guess if you are in fear of the front axle tube breaking use it. IMO it is just something to get snagged on stuff when out 4 wheeling.
Now days the deal is to mount it on top of the axle and get it up out of the way when rock crawling.
